Style Commandments

Like it or not, we are judged by our appearance. Studies show that  people form a lasting opinion about us within the first seconds of meeting us. Wow, right?!  Whatever your situation may be, a job interview, a meeting at your child’s school,  or any other setting that requires you to look put together.  There are a few things you can do (and a few things you should definitely NEVER do) to look polished and put together, without looking like you tried to hard.

 Here are my style commandments:

1) Dry your hair – Nothing screams “I rolled out of bed too late” than wet hair.  It implies messiness and poor time management.  Make sure your hair is dry and in some sort of style.  If you truly woke up too late, use a good dry shampoo and pull your hair into a ponytail.

2)  No chipped nail polish – This is a huge pet peeve of mine.  My mother in law used to say: “Polish on, or polish off”.  Chipped nail polish look sloppy and unprofessional.  Always make sure your hands are groomed and keep your nails short and neat.  If you don’t have time to maintain a manicure, then use a buffer to polish your nails to a high shine, or you can use a sheer pink polish that doesn’t show any chips.  One of my favorites is Mademoiselle by Essie.

3)  Keep your makeup natural and simple – Skip the bright lipstick in favor of a neutral gloss and keep eye makeup natural and to a minimum. Nothing says tired and “I stayed out late last night” more than redness, so neutralize your lids with a yellow based, neutral shadow and pop some Visine in your eyes if you have to. You want to brighten the eyes, curl your lashes and pop on some mascara.    Blend some cream blush in a neutral pink tone  onto the apples of your cheeks to mimic a healthy flush and you are good to go.

4)  Go easy on the perfume – You do not want your fragrance to enter the room before you do.  Stick to a scented lotion or better yet, skip it all together to be on the safe side.

I hope this helps – Now go get ‘em!
