Established by Rosanna Ortiz Sinel in 2009 as a way of connecting buyers and press with designers, Style Week Northeast is in its 6th season. I spent 5 of the last 7 nights at the Biltmore in Providence checking out some amazing talent at the runway shows that showcased designs made for Fall/Winter 2013.
The following are some of my faves: (all photos by Daniel Gagnon Photography)
On opening night I saw one of my favorite dresses of the week, a burgundy gown designed by Style Week alum Maria Del Carmen Mercado.
I was honored to be a judge for Red on the Runway – a fashion competition to benefit the American Heart Association. Heart disease survivors and advocates modeled garments specifically crafted for the event by Style Week designers.
Designer Kara Wickman, known for her corsets, won the competition with her signature garment paired with a velvet skirt.
On Thursday night newcomer Tatiana Cueva blew me away. I tracked down her models after the show to get a closer look at her creations, including this one made by woven vinyl. Just stunning.
I was very excited to see Toni Lyn Spaziano’s line on Friday night – in the past her designs have been beautifully made and very wearable (versus some of the other conceptual and avant-garde designers). She did not disappoint. I have already inquired about this gorgeous leather skirt!
On closing night, the house was packed. Nick Pini’s models wore headgear and lots of tough looks mixed with sparkle and sequins.
Jonathan Joseph Peters closed the evening with a highly anticipated show. Showing garments for both men and women, he used lots of reds and oranges including plaids, tweeds, and jersey dresses.
