Every woman needs at least one pair of jeans that make her feel fabulous. The right pair can tame a tummy, minimize hips, and elongate the legs. I love getting a client in the dressing room and watching her reaction when her body is basically transformed by a great pair of jeans!
- When you’re shopping for denim, plan to try on lots of pairs. I recommend going to a department store that carries several lines. They will all fit differently and you need to learn which ones suit you best.
- If you have full hips, you should go with a bootcut or straight leg jean to balance out the hip area. Skinny jeans make your ankles look tiny and by comparison, your hips look bigger (the dreaded “ice cream cone” effect). If you want to rock a skinny, wear boots over top to widen the bottom of the leg and keep things in balance.
- If you carry your weight in your tummy, check out the Jag jeans shown below. They have a stretchy panel where the waistband would normally be, so they smooth the tummy area and don’t dig in like regular jeans do!

*Please note that “curvy” describes a shape: if you have a smaller waist and fuller hips, this creates a curve vs. “straight” which tends to be someone fuller in the tummy and slighter in the hip.
