"Bellani Maternity is a place where milestones happen, where friendships begin, and where parents can find support and resources for any and every parenting challenge." - Kelly LaChance Guertin
If you’re a mom (or expecting mom) in Rhode Island, you know Bellani Maternity. Indeed, Bellani is all things maternity – and beyond that, this valuable resource is also a place for new and expecting families to connect and learn.
When founder Kelly LaChance Guertin opened the doors to their Warwick location in 2006, her mission was to be the “only resource you need in Rhode Island for new and expecting parents”. With connections to pediatricians, chiropractors, OBGYNs, the team at Bellani is well equipped to answer any question – and if they aren’t able to, they will find someone who is! Says LaChance Guertin, “We started Bellani because we saw a need for a place that welcomed and educated women regardless of their birthing preferences. We wanted to form a no-judgment zone where women could come and talk about their differences with an open mind, knowing that we all have the commonality that we're doing the best that we can on this difficult journey called parenting.”
Bellani’s retail component offers items in several categories: maternity, toys, breastfeeding essentials, gear, and gifts. Their online store carries many of these items, and hosts a gift registry.
Bellani’s website also offers a blog, brimming with detailed posts covering everything from new parent essentials to product reviews to safety.
“We've hand-picked the best educators to teach classes for both adults and children (think prenatal yoga and Little Van Gogh Art Classes). We pretty much have it all.” – Kelly LaChance Guertin
Kelly’s commitment to education and support of new parents is clear when you look at Bellani’s list of classes, groups and upcoming events. Just a few of the classes listed on their website include cloth diapering, infant CPR, swim, baby and toddler gym, and birthing. Bellani’s new Pregnancy Support Group, led by licensed family therapist, Alana DiMario, is now available for registration here.
The upcoming “Pregnancy Event” in early June is designed to connect expecting women with each other and with Bellani’s consultants, as well as local doulas and birth coaches. Expecting moms are encouraged to bring their questions! Demand has been quite high for a new moms group In South County, so LaChance Guertin is considering opening a classes-only space near Narragansett. Says the owner, “We have a tried and true model for supporting women in Warwick and we’d like to spread the love to southern RI!”
Beyond the commitment to provide resources to new and expecting parents, the team at Bellani supports those in their community who need a bit of extra help. Upon hearing the story of Belle, a local girl who was diagnosed with Leukemia, Kelly organized a schedule of customers and employees who take turns cooking dinner and dropping it off at the family’s house. Bellani also sells hair clips, with 100% of the revenue going directly to Belle’s family. Some of the Bellani instructors even donate a percentage of their class registration fees toward Belle’s family. Last month, the customer who won the monthly $100 gift card giveaway, donated it to the family, inspiring the team at Bellani to match the donation in cash. “We like working with this family because we can see and feel the effect our work is having on the family by making a difficult situation a little more bearable”, says LaChance Guertin.
