Review: Broken Silences
Author: Jason Robert LeClair
Illustrated by: Jason Robert LeClair
How many times I laughed out loud: Several
How many times I cried: Not that type of book
How many Ah-Hah moments: Three, due to suspenseful storytelling
Jason Robert LeClair is a true artist, in every sense of the word. He lives for the ability to create... whether it’s writing, drawing and painting, or defining environments for theatre productions as a technical and artistic director for Beacon Charter High School in Woonsocket, Jason is always deep in thought about what to turn into art next.
His latest work, Broken Silences, is just that... art in the written form.
Jason is a native Rhode Islander. Growing up in Pawtucket, and later graduating from Mount St. Charles Academy in Woonsocket, he had a well-developed imagination at an early age. He attended the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, where he developed a profound love for history and art theory, and writing. He also teaches critical studies in art at the RISD Pre-College program. This is no slouch!
Jason not only wrote, Broken Silences, he drew and designed his own book cover as well as drew the illustrations inside!!! Amazing!!! His drawings take your breath away. They are the perfect visual complement to his already poetically painted words. Jason says his, “well honed illustrative style of pencil drawing allows for the expression of his ideas on another level beyond the written word so that the reader can truly see his vision as he intended.” The book cover was the first thing to catch my eye, and when you see it, you’ll understand why. The skeleton of a fairy, carefully labeled, is so intricately drawn with such incredible detail I still can’t stop staring at it. I love having this book on my coffee table because it’s such a conversation piece.
This is a book I truly enjoyed, because I could feel through each word Jason wrote, his passion for this incredibly imaginative story. It comes right through the pages.
It is a pleasure to read an author who brings such creativity and passion to his work, and that’s the experience you have when you read Jason LeClair. It is a coming-of-age story. A young man turning eighteen years old learns first hand the reasons behind his father’s mistakes. The main character, Cavan Anstruther discovers why his father disappeared ten years ago in 1908 after inadvertently beginning the Great War.
Catch your attention yet?
Cavan’s father was a preeminent doctor of fairy science. It was he who discovered the truth about fairies, a controversial scientific find. It is a fantasy excursion, which takes you on a wild ride!
Jason is currently working on the sequel to Broken Silences - Wages of War. This is not a book you think about reading! Just dive in! You’ll be glad you did! Broken Silences is available on Amazon.com in paperback and kindle edition, as well as on barnesandnoble.com. Check Jason out on his website at: www.harshrealityltd.com
