Celebrating the best of the culinary world in Rhode Island, the Eat Drink RI Festival is set to take the stage as the state’s very first three-day local food festival running from Friday, April 19th through Sunday, April 21st
This is the inaugural festival and will be held throughout downtown Providence. I had the opportunity to interview, David Dadekian, one of the festival founders, and ask him a few questions about this three-day festival that will celebrate the best of the culinary world in Rhode Island.
What motivated or inspired you to create the eatdrinkri festival? 'I was having a discussion with Brendan Chipley Roane, Director of Marketing & Events for Gracie’s about the Providence Food & Wine Festival back in 2011 when idea of developing a festival ourselves was mentioned and grew from there.'
What are some of your goals or aspirations for Rhode Island in regards to the festival? 'We have so much to offer here that is fantastic: farmers, producers, wine makers, beer makers, chefs, etc., so why not spotlight PVD and RI chefs and showcase products?'
Are there still opportunities for businesses to get involved in the festival? 'Yes, there are still opportunities for the grand tasting and we even offer a discount for Rhode Island based businesses.'
What do you think makes this festival unique from other food festivals? 'There is the local aspect: local chefs & products and we get to show people where to go in their own backyard. We also have the 11 food trucks taking part in a benefit for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.'
A few of the events include:
On Friday, April 19th there will be the Truck Stop to Benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank at the Bank of America Center, Kennedy Plaza as well as, the Cocktail Couture event at the Providence Biltmore Garden Room.
On Saturday, April 20th there will be Education Panels held at the Providence Biltmore L’Apogee and the Grand Tasting presented by Providence Monthly at the Providence Biltmore Grand Ballroom.
On Sunday, April 21st there will be a Grand Brunch at Gracie’s.
