STEP into Spring

As far as I’m concerned there are two exciting times of year to buy shoes:  pre-fall (for boots, of course) and spring, for flats, sandals, peep toes and anything else that shows off a pedicure. After a few spring/summer shoe seasons full of neutrals and nude colors meant to recede into the background, bold shoes are back!  For those of you who love a statement shoe, this is your year:  pointed toes, color blocking, mixed textures and bold colors promise to keep your outfits interesting.

Top trends for 2013

The new neutral: metallic

From gold cap toes and heels to mixed metals and beading, this neutral is anything but boring.  The perfect complement to bold colors in your clothing, metallics go with just about anything.

Black & white

The black and white trend continues in footwear, with stripes, polka dots and color blocking*.  Another great choice if you are wearing bright colors in your outfit.

*A word of warning:  beware the multi-colored and color blocked shoe- it will not be long before it looks like a trend that “was”, and really, how many colors can you wear at once?

Pointed toe flats

A pointed toe keeps the eye moving and visually elongates the leg.  Perfect with skinny jeans!

Ankle straps

A thin, dainty strap is pretty, on-trend and ladylike.  Thick chunky straps can cut off your leg line, making legs appear shorter and thicker.   Proceed with caution!

“Flatforms”

Also known as flat platforms, these shoes add height without arching the foot.  So if you can’t walk in heels, but like to be tall, this is the shoe for you!
